About the film

This a beautifully crafted 2015 mystery film directed by Bill Condon and based on Mitch Cullin’s acclaimed novel A Slight Trick of the Mind.

Featuring the incomparable Ian McKellen as the detective, this poignant story unfolds during the detective’s retirement in Sussex. At 93, the detective faces his greatest challenge yet: grappling with a mind that is slowly deteriorating as he attempts to piece together the details of his final case. Supported by Laura Linney as his steadfast housekeeper, Mrs. Munro, and Milo Parker as her curious young son, this film is a moving exploration of memory, legacy, and human connection.
